I had the honor of assisting our stakeholders in celebrating International Customs Day (ICD), themed ‘Nurturing the Next Generation: Promoting a Culture of Knowledge-Sharing and Professional Pride in Customs.’ This event was especially meaningful to me as it marked my debut as a member of the organising team, and I’m excited to share that it exceeded all expectations!
Our chief guest, Ms. Lilian Nyawanda, Commissioner of Customs and Border Control at the Kenya Revenue Authority, delivered a captivating lecture on the rich history of customs. She beautifully illustrated the crucial role customs officers play in international commerce and cross-border trade, working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure smooth operations. Ms. Nyawanda also acknowledged the relentless dedication of customs officers, emphasiSing the challenging conditions they face daily and their indispensable role in safeguarding border security.
Recognising Excellence in Service
The event also celebrated the remarkable contributions of officers who have gone above and beyond in ensuring the seamless flow of trade across borders. The awards presented were a testament to their unwavering commitment and hard work.
